Typar® Premium Landscape Fabric
Helps Control Weeds Without Chemicals

Trees, shrubs and flowers are not only beautiful, they're also healthy for the environment because they synthesize carbon dioxide. Typar® Premium Landscape Fabric helps maintain healthy plants by inhibiting weeds from competing with them for water, space, sunlight and nutrients; and by reducing or eliminating the need to spray chemicals to remove weeds, the fabric helps limit further damage to the environment. Best of all, Typar Premium Landscape Fabric is an inexpensive and long-lasting way to reduce the time and effort spent weeding.

Weed growth does more than just detract from the beauty of landscaped areas. Weeds also compete with desirable plants for the necessities of life, and they can provide a haven for insects and disease. However, the traditional methods of controlling weed growth are usually ineffective, as well as difficult. Pulling weeds by hand is a time-consuming task that must be done repeatedly because roots are often left behind to grow again. Chemicals may threaten the environment, their spray can drift onto desirable plants, and they also must be used repeatedly.

Typar Premium Landscape Fabric works in a different way. It is a continuous-filament, tough polypropylene fabric that inhibits weed root growth. When the time needed for a one-time installation of the fabric is compared to the number of hours necessary for hand-weeding, and when the cost of Typar Premium Landscape Fabric is compared to the cost of repeatedly applying chemicals, it's easy to see that the savings in time and money quickly add up.

Unlike products such as black plastic that don't breathe, Typar Premium Landscape Fabric is porous to allow air, water and nutrients through, so the soil can be healthy and desired plant roots can have access to the ingredients necessary for their growth. However, the pores in Typar Premium Landscape Fabric are small enough to inhibit weed root growth. (Occasionally, a weed will begin growing in the mulch on top of the fabric, but it's usually easy to pull because its roots are not deep. In fact, for your desired plants to grow, you must cut an "x" in the fabric and plant through it.) Typar Premium Landscape Fabric resists tearing, punctures and rotting, and its performance is guaranteed when it's installed properly.

Typar Premium Landscape Fabric is lightweight so it's easy to take to the job site, and its flexible structure makes it a cinch to install because it follows ground contours readily. After removing anything--such as rocks or clumps of vegetation--that would create a bulge, simply roll the fabric over the area to be landscaped. Cut an "x" over existing plants, roll back the folds and gently bring the plants through so that the fabric settles at the base of the plant's stem. (If the area is being newly landscaped, cut an "x" in the fabric where bushes or flowers are to be located before planting them through the fabric.) Once plants are brought through, cover the fabric with three or four inches of the mulch of your choice to protect it from breaking down under the sun's ultraviolet rays. Covered with mulch, the fabric will last for years.

Typar Premium Landscape Fabric is packaged in a variety of sizes as small as 3 feet by 25 feet to as large as 151 inches by 300 feet. It does more than provide weed control in landscaped or gardened areas. It can be used for soil retention for retaining walls, around blind drains, as weed control under decks, to support brick or block walkways, for soil retention in planters and pots, and as an interceptor trench drain.
